you live the true back story as it happened to a local Christian musician in Jerusalem from the Ottomans to the British occupation (who he works for), to the creation of Israel and how he was treated. A fascinating read, Slow at times but overall you feel like you are there with him, going through the events.
This is the summary from one talented, likable man's day book. It should not be considered in the context of a great, objective history. It is a light, pleasant read that gives life to Jerusalem and its surroundings during the end of the Ottoman Empire and into the British Mandate through the eyes of a Christian Arab. It would have benefitted enormously from an editor who could have removed a lot of superfluous information and unnecessary names for the general readership and put pertinent foot notes at the bottom of the pages. Occasionally, it does give a glimpse into the lives of some of Jerusalem's key players during this forgotten time, but it has more to do with family dynamics and connections. It is not necessarily anti-Jewish, but certainly anti-Israeli. The author, were he alive, would gently claim it was only anti-Zionist. As noted, this is not objective history. Rather, it is merely a distilled daybook containing interesting relics from one individual's point of view.
